Hey my name is Wayne Bearden and I am 40 years old. I have been in EMS for 20 years. I started the medical field as a radiology aide in 2000. I met some ambulance crews in the ER and decided it looked like a cool job. I got hired as a wheelchair van driver and worked my way through EMT school eventually landing a spot on an ambulance. Basically started with First Responder, working my way through EMT-Basic, EMT-Intermediate and eventually earning my Paramedic certification. I eventually looked into teaching so I obtained my AHA BLS instructor cert as well as working side jobs in law enforcement, security and death investigations. A few years into being a paramedic, I took the NAEMSE Instructor 1 class therefore getting my Texas and Louisiana EMS Instructor certs as well. I also lived in worked in Nashville TN for a while in the entertainment world as security/EMT-IV which was a great experience. Once back in Texas, I completed fire academy and obtained my fire instructor certification as well as gaining my ACLS, PALS and NAEMT/PHTLS Instructor cert. After several years on a 911 ambulance plus doing years of interfacility transfers, I decided to transition into an ER setting working at a level 1 trauma center as a paramedic which is where I am currently. Definitely looking to get back on the streets and seeing what the future holds for me.
